“Playing is a serious thing”: enhancing the city’s territory, it intends to reflect on the possibilities and perspectives of playing and its effective action, as a right in formal and non-formal spaces. Considering the Unesco UniTwin Chair – The City that Educates and Transforms, this study presents the experience of two projects that highlight play in different spaces, with the aim of showing how the city has the power to promote play beyond the walls and school spaces. We highlight the project, “Playing is serious!”, developed at the Pedacinho do Céu Municipal School of Early Childhood Education in Taquaruçu do Sul/RS and the project “Music in the hospital toy library: life notes”, promoted by the URI Pedagogy Course, together with the Divina Providência Hospital in Frederico Westphalen/RS. The experiences are based on the understanding of the importance of playing and recreating play spaces beyond school, contributing to the construction of a city that promotes play, with actions that enhance childhood.
