The Brazilian Federal Constitution of 1988 ensures that education is a right for all citizens, with the State and society having the duty to guarantee this right. The National Education Guidelines and Bases Law (LDBN) of 1996 ratifies this constitutional precept and points to the extension of the school day as a way of guaranteeing the integral educational development of students in basic education. The present study analyzes the Brazilian legal regulatory framework that established the Full-Time Education Program – PETI in 2023, which presents itself as a public policy that induces an increase in the length of stay of educational subjects as a way of guaranteeing comprehensive school educational development. in the country. To this end, we carried out a documentary analysis and opted for the historical-dialectic materialist approach as a methodological reference for interpreting the data. Finally, as a result, the Full-Time Education Program is considered a valuable instrument, with the objective of promoting integral development and reducing disparities in educational access and quality, however it requires support so that its implementation does not fall into the trap of do more of the same.
