Abstract

Childhood is not limited to a single conception; it migrates, and adapts itself to the social, cultural, and individual context, however, with particularities only its own, as the joy of playing, fantasizing, and being whole and present in each minute lived. Childhood is singular, inhabits a unique being, but transcends wherever it goes, becoming diverse, hybrid, and audacious (Kohan, 2007; Fronckowiak, 2013). This article comes from a Master's Thesis entitled A infância em versos: Sérgio Capparelli defended in 2023. In that bibliographical and qualitative research, we chose to share the childhoods that emerge from the literary work The Tree That Gave Ice Cream. We observed they departed from known territories, such as those linked to oral tradition, animals, and family affection, migrated to new spaces, interacted with love, and observed society, denouncing poverty, slavery, and social injustices. Childhood transforms itself with each territory it travels, matures, and becomes bigger. However, it does not lose its sensitivity, sweetness, and capacity to love, imagine, dream, be happy with nonsense and illogicality, and believe in the impossible, especially because an adult poet can still consider it.

Ângela Cogo Fronckowiak, adjunct professor at UNISC since 1997, PhD in Education (Childhood Studies - UFRGS), Master in Literature (Theory of Literature - PUCRS) and Bachelor in Literature (Portuguese and its literatures - UFRGS), is a permanent professor in the Postgraduate Program in Literature, research line: Studies of Mediation in Reading and collaborator in the Education Program, research line: Language, Intercultural Experience and Education. She coordinated the Literature Course (2000-2002; 2014-2017; 2018-2019) and the subproject Letras Português PIBID (2010-2018) at UNISC.
