Abstract

The history and evolution of women's Human Rights has been influenced, like any social event, by the political, economic, social, cultural, labor and educational context of the historical stages. This article presents the main historical-legal background of the Human Rights of women, to raise awareness about the elimination of all forms of violence. The influence of ancient Rome in the legal field is taken into account, the contributions of the French Revolution, the Industrial Revolution and the advances of the Contemporary Age after the Wars. International instruments on Human Rights are presented, especially those that have positively influenced the guarantee of the Human Rights of women: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the International Covenant on Economic Rights, Social and Cultural Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Also notable are the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Inter-American Convention to Prevent, Punish and Eradicate Violence against Women, also known as Belém do Pará (Brazil). These last two Conventions constitute a transcendental contribution to the Human Rights of women, including aspects related to the principle of equality between men and women and non-discrimination, mentioning the scope and content of their fundamental rights, as well as prevention, care, sanction and eradication of the various manifestations of violence against women.
