MEMÓRIA E BIOGRAFIA EM O VELHO BAÚ

Resumo

Este artigo pretende refletir sobre as relações entre memória e história da
imigração alemã no sul do Brasil a partir da narrativa biográfica Die alte Truhe (O velho baú), de Hilda Siri, publicada originalmente no almanaque Serra-Post Kalender em 1952. Transportando seus pertences em um baú, uma família alemã se transfere para o Rio Grande do Sul e se vê diante do desafio de recomeçar a vida em um país estrangeiro. O monólogo da
narradora, uma descendente desta família, com o antigo baú, agora deteriorado, configura-se em torno de memórias e acontecimentos relacionados à imigração, caracterizando uma narrativa biográfica baseada em uma visão retrospectiva sobre o passado.

MEMORY AND BIOGRAPHY IN THE OLD CHEST

This article intends to reflect on the relations between memory and history of German immigration in South Brazil as in the case of the biographic narrative Die alte Truhe (The Old Chest), by Hilda Siri, originally published in the almanac Serra-Post Kalender in 1952. A German family carries its belongings in a chest and moves to Rio Grande do Sul, where it is challenged by the difficulties of a new life in a strange country. The monolog of the narrator, a descendant of this family, with the old, now deteriorated chest, turns around memories and events related to the immigration, characterizing a biographic narrative based on a retrospective vision about the past.
