A ESCRITA-LIMITE DO DIÁRIO DE MEMÓRIA PESSOAL: UMA PERSPECTIVA BENJAMINIANA

Resumo

Este texto busca discutir alguns aspectos do diário de memória pessoal a partir de considerações de Walter Benjamin sobre experiência, narrativa, romance e história. Interessame, entre outras coisas: 1) contemplar o estatuto da experiência no processo de escrita de diários; 2) estabelecer paralelos e limites entre o diário, o romance e a narrativa; 3) identificar
possíveis articulações entre esse gênero, o discurso histórico e a modernidade; e 4) investigar a inscrição das categorias tempo e espaço em um diário específico. Embora Benjamin seja aqui tomado como ponto de partida, seu pensamento será articulado ao de outros autores como Maurice Blanchot, Louis Hay e W. J. Mitchell. Espera-se, com essa discussão e com a
análise dos cadernos do escritor americano Nathaniel Hawthorne, mostrar a complexidade de uma escrita que, embora incorpore traços e procedimentos de outros gêneros e tradições, parece ter como principal característica a resistência a definições.

THE IN-BETWEEN WRITING OF COMMONPLACE BOOKS: A BENJAMINIAN
PERSPECTIVE

This text discusses some aspects of the commonplace book departing from Walter Benjamin’s reflections on experience, narrative, the novel and history. Among other things, I shall: 1) contemplate the status of experience in the process of writing commonplace books; 2) establish parallels between the diary, the novel and the narrative; 3) identify
tentative points of contact between that genre, the historical discourse and modernity; and 4) investigate the inscription of the categories space and time in a specific diary. Although I depart from Walter Benjamin, his thought shall be articulated with the production of other authors, such as Maurice Blanchot, Louis Hay and W. J. Mitchell. This discussion and the
analysis of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s notebooks aim at showing the complexity of a type of writing that, despite incorporating traits and procedures from other genres and traditions, seems to have as main characteristic the resistance to classifications.
