TRADIÇÃO E TRADUÇÃO EM UMA ZOOLOGIA IMAGINÁRIA

Resumo

Pretendemos, neste trabalho, refletir sobre duas edições de um mesmo livro. Manual de zoologia Fantástica, de Jorge Luis Borges e Margarita Guerrero, foi publicado em 1957, e suas edições subsequentes apareceram com um título diferente, bem como apresentaram mudanças no corpo do texto. A partir de sua segunda edição, o título passa a ser O livro dos seres imaginários, o prólogo muda, e o número de animais descritos no livro aumenta. Analisaremos o impacto dessa mudança para o entendimento da zoologia imaginária de Borges. Acreditamos que a obra se relaciona à tradição da zoologia, numa espécie de tradução dos animais fantásticos. Essa tradução é corroborada pelas mudanças que ocorrem nas diferentes edições do livro.

TRADITION AND TRANSLATION IN AN IMAGINARY ZOOLOGY

In this work we intend to think about two editions of the same book. Jorge Luis Borges and Margarita Guerrero´s Manual de Zoologia fantástica (Fantastic Zoology Manual) was published in 1957, but further editions were published with a different title and some modifications in the text. From the second edition on, the title became O livro dos seres imaginário (The Book of the Imaginary Beings), the preface changes, and the number of animals increases. Here we analyse the impact of these changes to understand Borges' imaginary zoology. We maintain that this work is related to the zoologic tradition in a kind of fantastic animals´translation
which is coroborated by the changes that occur in the different editions of the book.
